The Lithuanian capital was elected as European Green Capital 2025 for its strong commitment to sustainability while having a realistic and down to earth approach. Vilnius’s motto for their European Green Capital title year is: “Vilnius - the greenest city in the making”.

The city already successfully reduced emission through various measures, such as increasing renewable energy sources and renovating heating infrastructure with the aim to become climate neutral by 2030.
